Itinerary

Our journey begins at 4:00 pm with a visit to Bunga Ramgarhia, a centuries-old underground fortress that safeguarded the Harmandir Sahib from invaders. We’ll explore all three subterranean floors and enjoy a unique view of the Harmandir Sahib from the gallery, adorned with pillars taken by the Sikh army following their 1783 conquest of Delhi’s Red Fort.

At 4:30 pm, we’ll move to the langar hall adjacent to the bunga, renowned as the world’s largest kitchen. Visitors can taste the langar (community meal) and even participate in the cooking if interested.

By 5:00 pm, we’ll conclude our visit to the Bunga and embark on a parikrama (circumambulation) of the complex. Along the way, we’ll encounter the Thara Sahib, Baba Deep Singh’s shrine, and other notable structures such as Baba Atal, the tallest gurdwara globally, and the Dukh Bhanjani Beri tree.

Around 5:30 pm, we’ll head towards the main Harmandir Sahib structure. Here, we’ll visit the first floor housing the historic handwritten Guru Granth Sahib and witness the continuous Akhand Path (non-stop reading) that occurs round the clock.

After our time at the altar, we’ll enjoy Kada Prasad (sweet halwa) and resume our parikrama. As sunset approaches, we’ll experience the aarti ceremony resonating across the Harmandir Sahib complex, with tourists standing together in harmony, paying homage to centuries-old gurdwara traditions.

Following this, we’ll proceed directly to Akal Takht, the political centre of the Sikh religion, to view historic weapons of the Sikh Gurus on display. From there, we’ll witness the Chowki Sahib procession, where devotees circumambulate the Harmandir Sahib complex while reciting the Sukhmani Sahib, concluding around / before 7:00 pm.

Our heritage walk concludes with an early dinner or late evening snacks of traditional Punjabi cuisine at a nearby restaurant, Rangla Panjab, situated in Town Hall. This marks the end of our enriching journey.
