At Kanheri, the lush green hills and dense forests create a serene and secluded atmosphere. The ancient rock-cut caves, with their intricate carvings and serene statues of the Buddha, stand as silent witnesses to centuries of meditation and devotion. The Kanheri Caves are a group of 129 caves and rock-cut monuments located in Mumbai. It is importance is heightened by the fact that Kanheri was an important seat of learning (or university) for Buddhism during the 5th and 6th centuries.
This half day tour takes you on an immersive journey back in time as you travel back 2000 years and connect with the monks of Kanheri, which was one of the great Buddhist monasteries of its time. Here you will learn about the art of meditation and the essence of the Buddhist Faith. Understand the different layers of the Buddhist belief system and how monks from Kanheri took Buddhism to Japan.
