Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 second half post arrival into Agra

  • *Embark on a 3-hr walk of the walled city of Akbarabad/ ‘Old city’, for context setting with our local storyteller navigating 16th century colonies to look at the majestic views of Agra
  • **End the day with a rooftop ‘Dastarkhan – e – Akbarabad’, a traditional home cooked meal of secret recipes protected by generations of women, celebrating the traditions of Agra’s deep culinary heritage over an exclusive ‘Afghan Rabab’ performance against the backdrop of The Taj Mahal
  • Return to your hotel

*This walk is optional. We request guests to read the ‘What to expect’ section to acquaint themselves with the walk of the old city.

** Guests who choose to opt out of this walk are requested to arrange for their meals directly and is not included in the tour package

Day 2
  • After an early breakfast, start your journey towards the unveiling of the Taj with our local storyteller and guide
  • Enjoy an exclusive boating ride at the Yamuna followed by a mid-morning snack at our secret location overlooking the Taj
  • Embark on the Artisan’s Journey to discover handicraft clusters owned by families that once built the Taj Mahal
  • Stop for lunch at Ekaa Villa to discover Braj Food, a unique vegetarian meal prepared specifically for by the Braj community
  • Proceed to a walking/ motorised tour of the Agra Fort, and other monuments in its vicinity like the Itmaduddalah, Arambagh. Akbar’s church, red Taj Mahal and more
  • Rest point at a famous local café
  • End the evening at Mehtab Bagh taking in the beautiful view of the taj Mahal. Listen to folklore and other unfiltered stories from the community as told by our local guide and storyteller.
  • Return to your hotel
Day 3
  • Early start to discover the picturesque pavilions of Fatehpur Sikri and Sikandara, with an exclusive guided tour by an award-winning scholar and Mughal historian, invited specially for finale of the trip. Brunch and a rest point is included in this walking tour.
  • End of Tour.
  • *The car/shuttle will return to Agra

What to expect

  • The old city of Agra is more than 300 years old; it is a densely populated area with winding narrow roads, bustling of people, vehicles, and shops. During the walk, you may encounter the cacophony of an ancient city.
  • We may come across areas where the streets are not clean, but our efforts will be put towards avoiding those tracks.
  • The ‘Dastarkhan - e – Akbarabad’ will be served on the roof top of a 120-year-old familial house, in the old city. The entry is via narrow lanes and steps leading up to the rooftop, surrounded by a clustered neighbourhood. This is a homely experience against the backdrop of the Taj Mahal. The food will be served by the women of the family. You may encounter monkeys during the dining experience. However, we will ensure a staff member is always positioned to chase them away.

  • The tour is experienced best on foot. Hence, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. 
  • Due to uneven surfaces, this tour is not recommended for those with walking disabilities.
  • Incase, you need special assistance, please do get in touch with us to know your options. 
  • Each walk can range from 30mins to a few hours, with breaks planned in between. 
  • Cotton clothing and a hat is preferred to prevent the heat of the day. 
  • Please wear clothes that cover your knees and shoulders as you will visit areas of worship during the tour.
  • Evenings will be pleasant and cool.
  • We aim to provide breaks for rest with refreshments during our walk, however as these are heritage walks, the closest break point may be a distance away.

  • Kids above 12 yrs will be treated as per adult prices. Chidren below 12yrs can avail a student discount
  • Not open to children below 10 yrs
  • As this a walking tour please keep in mind that children may get tired.
  • This price excludes personal purchases, special diet requests, alcoholic beverages and extras which are not included in the package.
